🔊  Add Audio and Video into Your World

Audio

A fun way of livening up your Topia world is by adding music, sounds, or even a livestream to an asset. Whether you want to hear a gentle rainstorm by a stream or a live DJ playing on stage, adding spatial audio near an asset can help you set the mood.

Video

From video slideshows to independent short films, adding video is also a great way to make a world more engaging. Embedded videos can be displayed in three different ways:

📺  Add Spatial Audio and Video to an Asset

Topia supports pre-recorded and live-streaming media coming from YouTube, Twitch, and Vimeo as well as media files stored on Dropbox and Amazon Simple Storage Service.

Once an asset is placed in a world, you can add media to it by doing the following:

  • Make sure Edit Mode is on and the Edit toggle on the toolbar is blue.

  • Hover your cursor over the asset and click the pencil icon that appears above it

  • Click Edit from the drop down menu to open the Modify Asset drawer

  • Click Media

  • On the Media page, Select either Audio (Link) or Video (Link). Selecting Audio (Link) will play only the audio portion of the media. Select Video (Link) will show the video as one of the peer video boxes when a user approaches the asset.

  • Use Audio Volume and Audio Radius to adjust the sound level and the distance you want the sound to cover

  • To sync the audio for everyone, regardless of when they get to the asset, select Sync Media (skip if media is already live-streaming)

  • Add the URL address of the media in the field labeled Media Link by using one of the following methods:

YouTube & Twitch:

    • Use the complete URL address of the video

    • Use software like OBS Studio to first stream to Twitch or YouTube, and then add the media link from there

YouTube Livestream:

    • Use the complete URL address of the video
    • Do not toggle on Sync Media. Doing so will start from live stream from the very beginning for each user

Vimeo (video only):

    • On Vimeo, in the top left corner of the video, click the Share icon

    • Copy the text under Embed and paste this into a note or doc. Then grab the URL in first part of the text, located between src=“ and " width="640"

The URL will look like the bolded text in the example below:

<<iframe title="vimeo-player" src="https://player.vimeo.com/video/717779857?h=00416532b2 " width="640" height="360" frameborder="0"    allowfullscreen></iframe>

    • Use this URL as the media link

    • Volume adjustments are not yet available for this media type

Media on Dropbox
(audio only):

    • On Dropbox click Share. Create then copy the link.

    • Modify the URL by removing "dl=0" at the very end of the link and replace it with "raw=1"

Original URL:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/9............q/example.mp4?dl=0

Modified URL:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/9............q/example.mp4?raw=1
    • Volume adjustments are not yet available for this media type

Media in Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3)
(audio only):

    • On Amazon S3 take the file link and change the URL to the following structure:

https://s3.[REGION].amazonaws.com/[BUCKET_NAME]/[FILE_NAME]

    • Audio volume adjustments are not yet available for this media type

  • If you are adding live video, give the video a name under Video Link Title, this name will appear under the video stream
  • Collapse the page by clicking the ❘← icon in the top right corner or close the page and drawer by clicking on the in the drawer

🎬  Sync Pre-Recorded Media

For media links, you can ensure pre-recorded media is synced across all users in your world. To enable this, choose the asset playing the media, open the Edit drawer, click Media, and then toggle on Sync Media. This is not necessary for live-streaming content since the media is synced automatically.

🎥  Add MP4s to a Video Player Asset

With a paid subscription plan, you can upload your own .mp4 videos into a video player within Topia. To add a video to a video player in your world, follow these simple steps:

  • Open the Topia Assets and filter the results for the category: Video Player

  • Choose a video screen and drop it into your world

  • Once placed, hover your cursor over the asset and click the pencil icon that appears above it

  • Click Edit from the drop down menu to open the Modify Asset drawer

  • Click Media

  • On the Media page, select Video (Uploaded)

  • Use Audio Volume and Audio Radius to adjust the sound level and the distance you want the sound to cover

  • Under Upload Video Media, enter a title for the video, choose the file, and press Upload .mp4. After the upload is complete, the video will start immediately and playback will be synced for everyone

  • To switch to a previously uploaded video, use the toggle in the Uploaded Video Media table

  • Collapse the page by clicking the ❘← icon in the top right corner or close the page and drawer by clicking on the in the drawer
